Birds of a Feather is a wonderful bird portrait series by photographer Claire Rosen. The idea for this photo series came to Claire when she was searching for a toucan in New Jersey for a commercial photo shoot. She found one at Bird Paradise, one of the world’s largest exotic bird superstores. But once she entered the store she not only found a little toucan but the inspiration for her series Birds of a Feather. “They had so many birds and they were amazing,” Rosen said. “I really wanted to photograph them and not on black and white; I thought wallpaper would be better.” Claire Rosen asked the owners of Bird Paradise to let her shoot at the store and she was allowed to set up a makeshift studio right there. Claire collected around 200 sheets of wallpaper from Waterhouse Wallhangings who offered her to use wallpaper samples from their scrap pile. I think it is amazing how well the vintage wallpapers highlight the characteristics of each exotic bird. But have a look yourself!
