The Schneid design studio focuses on the development and production of interior furniture and lamps. The studio was founded in 2012 by Niklas Jessen, a trained carpenter and architect, and Julia Mülling, who studied literature in Berlin and is also passionate about art and design. Their philosophy is based on a Scandinavian way of thinking and their ideas for products and objects come in a very natural way and are mainly due to feelings of aesthetics, proportions and shapes. However Niklas and Julia feel that it is necessary to consider the meaning and purpose of new developments with regard to function and sustainability.
We believe that it is important to rethink our profession as designers and to become aware of our responsibility by developing new products and by introducing them into the market. Accordingly our projects are driven by the attempt to create lightings and furniture that are sustainable and high-quality with the potential of a longer life and a reason for their existence.
As a result of this spirit and by virtue of our personal background, we consider ourselves as a new type of design studio that is able to work more independently by managing the whole manufacturing process of our ideas. Even if it becomes more and more difficult to produce regionally, we try to find high quality manufacturers in our surroundings. In order to achieve a good communication and cooperation with our partners we emphasize a direct and personal contact. By means of visiting the premises of our potential partners, we can experience working possibilities, conditions of employment and the quality of their manufacture. This personal contact is a significant element of our projects which fully meet the complex requirements of a crafted product.
